Beware of Fraudulent Phone Calls to Your Business

A common business scam using phone calls (vishing) is currently on the rise in Montana. Scammers impersonate banks and often spoof bank phone numbers, making it appear as though they could be bank employees. Then, they often demand personal information to access your online banking.

What You Can Do

  • Verify independently. If someone contacts you claiming to be from Stockman Bank and it’s not your usual eBiz/Small Business Banking contact or sounds suspicious, hang up and call your eBiz/Small Business Banking contact.
  • Never share sensitive information. We will never ask for your username, password, PIN, or One-time Passcode via phone, text or email.
  • Urgency. Be especially wary if the requestor is pressing you to act quickly.
  • Recognize fraud attempts. Teach your employees about the risk of business scams, the importance of verifying financial requests and never bypassing normal verification steps, as well as how to report suspicious activity.
  • Keep computer systems secure. Keep your systems up to date, utilize antivirus software and follow strong cybersecurity practices.
